“Ric-Rac?”
“Yeah, Anna. It’s me. I couldn’t sleep yet again.” Brian
apologized late on night on the phone.
“It’s okay. I don’t mind. Anything in specific you want to
talk about?” Anna asked pulling herself awake. As much as she hated losing
sleep, she loved talking to Brian.
Anna quickly pulled her thoughts away from the past. Brian
would be at her house soon, to take her on the second, first date. This time,
she didn’t want to win him over, she wanted to show him, she was over him.
I’m strong
I know I am
or I hope I am
I’d rather you not make me find out
I’d like to believe
that those brick walls
around my wounded heart are standing straight and tall.
Brian looked in the rear view mirror one more time to make
sure his hair was tamed. As usual, there was one cow-lick that would never
cooperate. Frustrated, he sighed and pulled himself out of his car.
Nervously, Brain took one step at a time towards Anna’s
front door. If he knew Anna, she wasn’t going to make this easy. How hard she’d
make it, he had no idea.
Slowly, he scrunched up his pointer finger, decided to ring
the door bell or dash back home. The door bell won.
Quite loudly he head the chimes rebound off the walls. Soon
feet could be heard, clipping towards the door.
Please I’m
begging
don’t pick up where we left
It’s too painful
I know you know that
So why do you want to return?
Happiness is all I ask
yet I feel
it will be too hard to grasp.
The door opened slowly and soon Anna’s face appeared from
behind it. No smile to accompany the beauty of her appearance.
Brian’s own smile faltered as he looked her in the eyes.
Eyes of steel. He wasn’t sure if he could penetrate them.
