Happy New Year!
I almost posted on New Year’s Day just to say that and let you know I’m still writing, but since I basically did that a few weeks ago, it felt pointless to post another blog without a story update to go with it. But lately I’ve been thinking maybe I should do more blogging on this site in between story updates to give people another reason to visit. I am fully planning to get back to regular story updates when I’m ready, but the project I’ve been working on just isn’t far enough yet that I could guarantee, say, weekly updates for more than a couple of months. I do have ten chapters finished, which is farther than I’ve gotten with any other novel since Sick as My Secrets, so that is a good sign.
As far as blogging goes, I don’t see the point in blogging about the Backstreet Boys because, quite frankly, there are already other sites that do that better and more often than I would be able to. (Check out What Happens on the Backstreet and my affiliate The Dark Side if you haven’t already!) I feel like I could talk about BSB fanfic all day, though, and there just aren’t that many places to do that these days. Years ago, I was in a Yahoo Group run by Mare, one of the moderators at Absolute Chaos, that worked like a book club; each month, we would all read the same fanfic and discuss it together. She carried the concept over to the AC message board, which was once an active place to talk about both fanfic and the Boys, but there just aren’t very many of us left there who still read and write fanfic. It makes it hard to have a good discussion. Anyway, I was just thinking it might be fun to resurrect the concept of reading and discussing fanfic together. I would enjoy blogging about old stories, whether my own or favorites by other authors, but would anyone else be interested in reading/commenting/discussing along with me? If so, leave a comment and let me know! And if not, stay tuned for the next story update… whenever that may be!
I’d be so here for that! My resolution this year is to settle on something and consistently write it. My fanfic focus has been so scattered that I’m getting new ideas or I’m hopping from fic to fic.
Girl, same!! I finally seem to have settled on a story, but now the challenge will be see if I can keep working on it between now and summer. I failed with this last year, which is why I’m hesitant to post anything yet. I really hope you can stick to your resolution; I miss seeing stuff I want to read on AC! Thanks for commenting! You know I’m always down to talk about fanfic anytime, anywhere, so if you need someone to bounce ideas off or brainstorm with, hit me up!
I’d love that. I had tried to do that on Facebook but there’s not too many people who like to discuss writing or fanfic anymore unfortunately. I would love to be a part of that
I’m still very active in writing and I’m working on finishing Take Me Home.. I also have three stories that I’ve worked on but not posted, and I’ve posted on the round Robin 1,000 Ways that we all did. Hoping to start posting something new this year 🙂
Thanks for being someone I can always count on, Tracy! You are a constant in this fandom. 🙂 I’m so glad to see there’s still interest in doing something like this. We will definitely have to give it a try here and see what happens!
I don’t write fan fic but I do love reading it. You could say I discovered BSB rather late – after Kevin left.
But I used to read a lot of BSB stories but it seemed they all stopped writing as a whole.
I would be more than willing to read n discuss fanfic if your site has that option.
I was reading one about an native Indian but that stopped dead cold, so if commenting would help writers to write, count me in
The BSB fandom, as far as fanfic goes, has definitely slowed down over the years. In the late 90s and early 2000s, it used to be so active, and fanfic was really popular! Now it’s hard to find sites/stories that still get updated frequently. I get it because it’s happened to me too – we’ve all grown up and have other priorities in life, but I do still love fanfic and miss reading and discussing stories with people. I’m so glad to hear people are still interested in reading and commenting! It definitely helps me stay motivated and involved in fanfic when there are others who are interested in reading, writing, and/or discussing, so I definitely plan to do something with this idea! Thanks so much for commenting!
I’m so glad to see there is some interest in this idea! I’m wondering what would be the best way to do this. Do you like the idea of a weekly blog post on the site that you could respond to in the comments, or would it be better to resurrect the forum and have a discussion there? I’m good either way, just wondering what others would prefer.
I LOVE this idea. Now, I’m no fanfic writer by any means, but I’ve always wanted to give it a go. Reading some of the stories here, and a few others that are still surviving out there, give me an escape from the craziness of reality here! I’d love to keep reading and maybe even venture into writing my own. 🙂
Wonderful!! Thanks for commenting! You should definitely give writing a try! I never thought it was something I would stick with, until I finished my first story, and then I was hooked!
You are so sweet and encouraging!! I think I may start one this weekend… I’ve had an idea for a concept of one for awhile now! Eeek!
Awesome! Go for it, girl!!
