A Dreamy New Site

Hello, and Happy Easter! Long time no see. Sorry about that. 2018 has been a difficult year for me so far. First I lost my laptop, then my beloved cat… and if I’m being honest with myself, I also lost my love for the Backstreet Boys. One Backstreet Boy in particular.

When Melissa Schuman made her sexual assault allegations against Nick last fall, I tried to ignore them at first. I wanted to believe that Nick was innocent, that he would never rape a woman, and that, if he did, he would take responsibility for his actions and admit his mistake. When he denied the allegations, I wanted to take his side.

But I couldn’t. You see, I am a woman. That means I must automatically side with other women. I’ve never met Melissa Schuman and don’t know much about her, but she has a vagina, and I have a vagina, so I must assume she’s telling the truth. Regardless of fact or logic, I must believe her. In spite of how many years I’ve followed Nick’s career or how many times I’ve met him, I can’t ignore the allegations against him anymore. I must support his accuser. #MeToo

This makes it difficult to remain a BSB fan. How can I continue to support a group whose most popular member is an accused rapist? How can I continue to write fan fiction about said rapist? I can’t. #TimesUp

Therefore, I’ve decided to make some major changes to Dreamer’s Sanctuary. I’m not going to quit writing fanfic or take down the site, but I am going to get rid of all mentions of Melissa’s rapist and his group. From now on, to show my continued support for Melissa and all women, I will be writing fan fiction about her former girl group, Dream. My old stories are currently being revised to reflect this change, and all new stories will star Melissa and the three other strong, talented women in the group. I hope you’ll enjoy getting to know Melissa, Holly, Ashley, and Diana through my stories.

To quote one of my favorite Dream songs, “That was then; this is now.” Welcome to the new era of Dreamer’s Sanctuary!

Dreamers Sanctuary and Dream…coincidence or what?

Normally I stand in solidarity with any of my sisters abused by any sicko out there (Harvey Weinstein, Bill Cosby, R Kelly, Jimmy Savile…), but I simply don’t believe this Nick Carter rape story, and believe me it’s not because I’m a Backstreet fan. Apart from Kaya Jones, how many victims have come forward? As someone who has faced sexual harassment in the past, I can totally understand why the victims are afraid to come forward, but apparently Melissa followed Nick on Twitter for years before she made the revelation, and even sent her condolences when Bob passed away, and now she remembers she was raped nearly 20 years ago? Ask the Backstreet Army, and you’ll find there’s evidence proving she fabricated her claims (Something to do with the internet provider or something), and AJ has told the press Melissa’s accusations make no sense. Even Tamar Braxton has stated she is a fantasist following new accusations regarding her ex-husband. Just because you can give a detailed description of the venue where it allegedly took place doesn’t mean it actually took place; it simply means you know the place…as simple as that. Nick isn’t my favourite Backstreet Boy, but if Melissa thinks we’ll stand back and watch her smear BSB’s name, she’s more deluded than I thought…

    1. Kinda perfect, right? I agree with you completely. I’m all for women supporting women and victims coming forward, but I don’t believe that we should blindly accept every woman’s account as the truth, regardless of evidence. To say that we should believe women, period, but not give men the same benefit of the doubt is a double standard and, to me, goes against the whole idea of gender equality. In this case, I’m not willing to turn my back on someone I’ve been a fan of for 20 years because of a case of “he said, she said.” Frankly, it’s none of our business what may or may not have happened between Nick and Melissa 15 years ago. None of us know the whole story. I’ve questioned things from both sides of it, but it’s not my place to speculate. Could Nick be guilty? Of course he could. He definitely did some unsavory things back in that era that he’s taken ownership for, yet he’s denied doing this. Even if he did do more than he’s admitting to, he is a completely different person now than he was 15 years ago. I would rather forgive him for his past mistakes and support the good person I believe him to be now than turn my back on him to support Melissa Schuman, a woman I know virtually nothing about, who has done nothing to earn my respect and doesn’t seem to have much respect for herself either.
